A Tribute to Elvis
By: Blake Ellege In the hills of Western North Carolina, in the town of Hendesonville right outside of Asheville, Blake Ellege was born. He grew up in a family surrounded by music. His mother, Margie, a pianist and singer/songwriter, and his dad Randy, a minister, enriched his life with music. He developed a taste for "old" music at an early age, and heard Elvis at the age of 6 and fell in love instantly. "He was like Elvis even when he was young", says his mother, " he would stand in front of the mirror and wiggle his little leg and yell out....HOUND DOG!!" Based out of a family of gospel music, Blake could only express his other side of music to family and friends, but that all changed in the later years of his life. At the age of 12, Blake made a pilgrimige with his family to Memphis for the 26th Anniversary of Elvis's death. There saw impersonators, not just any impersonators, but the best of the best. He then decided that he wanted to be just like the men he adored. After a year of practicing, he made his first performance in front of his whole school for a Christmas program. "The audience response at his first performance was absolutely phenominal, and I am not just saying that cause he's my boy," says his dad, " It was soo overwhelming, and I knew this was the start of something big!" Within the next four years Blake had been asked to perform at all kinds of venues, he even performed at some of the most famous places in the city that he fell in love with,Memphis.He performed at the Blues City Cafe, club 183, and his most cherished performance, at the Graceland Plaza, right outside the gates, for the 30th Anniversary Celebration of Elvis's death. He also had the priviledge of performing with one of the most famous Elvis Impersonators in Las Vegas, Elvis Preistely. Blake Ellege has not only captured the spirit of Elvis in every performance, but he portrays Elvis at a deeper level, like the other "run-of-the-mill" Elvis impersonators don't. He has been recognized Internationally for his Elvis impersonations. He has been filmed for television in Belgium, France, The United Kingdom, Switzerland, Germany, and Canada.
